JIM BUCHANAN

James Wayne "Buck" Buch-anan, 66, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Jim was born in Bland County, Va., Nov. 28, 1941, to the late James M. Buchanan and Mattie Ferguson Buchanan. He retired from the United States Air Force with 26 years of service and with tours of duty in Vietnam, Phillipines, Thailand and Germany. While serving his country, Jim was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Francis Marion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4667 in Marion, Va.

Following his military career, Jim worked with Bridgestone-Firestone in Wilson for 19 years. Jim was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church, where he was currently serving as a deacon. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Southeastern Golf Association.

Funeral will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at Adamsville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Todd Wiggins officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2007, at Middlefork Cemetery in Marion, Va., with full military honors.

Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Johnson Buchanan; his sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Diane Buchanan of Goldsboro and Steven and Shannon Buchanan of Goldsboro; his sisters and brother-in-law, Ila Thompson of Wytheville, Va., and Carolyn and Bob Stamper of Marion, Va.; his grandchildren, Dustin, Alexis, Curtis, April, Mason and Michael; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Adamsville Baptist Church, 1302 N. Berkeley Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service at Adamsville Baptist Church and from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2007 at Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion, Va.
