O'Max Gardner Powell, 78, of 1707 Friendly Road, died early Thursday morning at his home. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Willie Mae Martin Powell. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Goldsboro Masonic Lodge No. 634. For over 45 years he was the owner and operator of Powell's Plumbing and Heating Company and was a member of the Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors of North Carolina.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Rosewood Fellowship Church with the Rev. Ken Spivey, the Rev. Lynn Epps and Ray Boyette officiating.

Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Shirley T. Powell; his children, Larry Powell of Goldsboro, Bonnie Hawkins and her twin brother, Donnie Powell of Goldsboro, Sabrina Mitchell of Goldsboro and her twin brother, Michael Powell of Goldsboro, Jay Powell of Goldsboro, Beverly Bragg of Goldsboro and her twin sister, Kim Hankins of Goldsboro; one sister, Emma Stevens of Grantham; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Family members will greet friends Saturday immediately following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Home, Health and Hospice Care, Inc., 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534 or to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Golds-boro, N.C. 27534.
