FRANCIS R. MATHEWS
DUDLEY -- Francis Robert Mathews was born on May 12, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Adlard and Bernadine Durkin Mathews. They had four children with Francis being the only boy.
Living in Brooklyn, N.Y., he completed high school and later served in the Army during WWII and the Korean War. Francis worked as a New York City bus driver after the war. He moved to New Jersey and lived there until his retirement before moving to Dudley, N.C., in November 1988.
Francis passed away Monday night, Dec. 10, 2007, at Britthaven Nursing Home. He will be missed by his good friends whom he considered his North Carolina family as well as those left in New Jersey.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church Cemetery in Dudley. Arrangements by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
