SMITHFIELD -- Nettie Steven Grantham, 92, of 36 E. Peedin Road, died Friday at Britthaven Nursing Center, Smithfield, N.C. She was born to the late John Franklin "Tim" Steven and Minerva Birtsell in Johnston County. She was married to the late David John Grantham who preceded her in death on Oct. 13, 1993. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Johnnie, Leon, Sarah, Paul, George, Ludie, Hattie and Clarence. She became a member of Green Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained faithful as long as her health permitted. She received her education in the Johnston County Schools. She served as musician for her church and many others. Her employment was Shiloh Child Care, KR Edwards Tobacco Company and agriculture.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, David R. Grantham of Wilmington, N.C., John E. Grantham of Greenbelt, Md., Evangelist Jane G. Penny of Selma, N.C. and Elijah G. Grantham of Suitland, Md.; 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at 1 p.m. at St. Peter Church of Christ, 1011 E. Massey St., Smithfield, N.C. with Elder Deashley Curtis officiating. Wake will be Tuesday, Dec. 4, at Green Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Brogden Road, Smithfield, N.C. from 7 to 8 p.m. Viewing will be today at Walter Sanders Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are by Walter Sanders Funeral Home of Smithfield.
