WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Geraldine "Gerri" Sellars Pettit, died Monday at Regent Care Center, Waco, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, in the chapel of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, Texas, with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Interment will be in Goldsboro, N.C., at a later date.

Gerri was born in Canton, N.C., to the late Roy and Mildred Sellars. Her family moved to nearby Asheville, where she lived until her marriage to James C. Pettit on Nov. 15, 1940. Following World War II, Gerri traveled with her husband, a career Air Force NCO, on numerous and varied tours of duty: Tampa, Fla.; El Paso and Amarillo, Texas; Etain, France; Wichita Falls, Big Spring, Austin, Texas and Goldsboro, N.C. Gerri lived in Goldsboro until 2003 when she moved to Wichita Falls to be near family.

During her years in Goldsboro, Gerri was a participant and officer in several bowling leagues, the International Wives Club, the NCO Wives Club and TOPS/KOPS. After moving to Wichita Falls she remained dedicated to the TOPS/KOPS organization and celebrated her 30-year anniversary as a KOPS. Gerri also became an active member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and lovingly attended the Disciples Sunday school class, Disciples Women, group outings to Granbury and Friday afternoon sessions with her "drinking buddies" at McDonald's.

Gerri was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John Roy Pettit; her parents; brother, R.V. Sellers; sister, Lucille Sellars Roberts; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by sons, Jacques Pettit and wife, Aldonna, of Shertz, Texas; Dr. James C. Pettit Jr. and wife, JoAnne Bristol, of Waco, Texas; daughter, Patricia Pettit Lauck and husband, Ted, of Wichita Falls; grandsons, Jason Lauck, Dalton Lauck and wife, Kelly, David Pettit, Joshua Pettit and Jacob Pettit; granddaughters, Kathleen Lauck, Emily Smith and husband, Vance, Nicole Pettit and Elizabeth Pettit; great-grandchildren, Alec Lauck, Jake Lauck, Katie Lauck and Daniel Pettit; sisters, Hope Weiss of Atlanta and Vivian Stikeleather and husband, Harold, of Asheville, N.C.; sister-in-law, Dr. Peggy Pettit of Boulder, Colo.; brother-in-law, John Carroll Pettit of Jacksonville, Fla.

Gerri is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, best friend for decades, Bobbie Wagner and close, well-loved friends in both Goldsboro, N.C., and Wichita Falls, Texas.
