Ruth Tilton Howell, 88, formerly of Goldsboro, died Tuesday at Margate Health and Rehab Center in West Jefferson, N.C.

Ruth was born in Wayne County to the late George Calvin Tilton and Mary Willoughby Tilton. She was married to the late Charles Lemuel Howell. Ruth was retired from Branch Bank and Trust Company in Goldsboro with 28 years of service. She had also worked for the Wayne County Teachers Credit Union for 10 years. Ruth was a charter member of Love Memorial Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Toler and the Rev. George Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Barbara Pyatt and husband, Giles, of Warrensville; and her sisters, Esther Whitley of Clayton and Sally Anderson of Goldsboro. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Donna Howell of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, including Jennifer Simmons of Wilmington and Michael Pyatt of West Jefferson; 10 great-grandchildren and several special nieces.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Edward Howell; her brother, Thurman Tilton; her sisters, Lois Howell, Mary Mitchell, Ila Forehand and Bertha Godwin; and her grandson, Ricky Howell.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Love Memorial Baptist Church, 192 Woodland Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
