Alice Thompson Neal Best, 97, died this morning at Britthaven Nursing Home.

Mrs. Best was born in Johnston County to the late William Jarman Thompson and Susan Martin Thompson. She was married to the late Grover Cecil Neal and the late Dwight Moody Best. She was a member of Oakland Friends Church. Mrs. Best was retired from the State of North Carolina and later worked as a seamstress with The Ladies Shop in Goldsboro for over 20 years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Princeton Cemetery.

Mrs. Best is survived by her son, Donald Cecil Neal and wife, Gloria, of Rosewood; her daughter, Erma Neal Thomas and husband, J.C., of Emerald Isle. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Cathy L. Thomas, Chris N. Thomas and wife, Wendy, Renee N. Parrish and husband, Ricky, Don C. Neal Jr. and wife, Joann, and Valerie N. Barlow and husband, Tim; and seven great-grandchildren, Cassie L. Thomas, Dillon C. Thomas, Steven N. Parrish and wife, Jennifer, Bliss N. Parrish, Olivia L. Neal, Brooke A. Neal and Savannah R. Barlow; one great-great-grandchild, Martin N. Parrish; five step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Oakland Community Church, 921 Oakland Church Road, Princeton, N.C. 27569.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Donald and Gloria Neal, 103 Sasser Drive, Goldsboro.
