JAMES D. WOMBLE SR.

Died Sept. 6, 2007

MURFREESBORO -- James D. Womble Sr., 93, died at the Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie on Thursday. Mr. Womble grew up and graduated high school in Roanoke Rapids. He attended University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where he was on both the baseball and football teams. He was married to the late Louise Brown Womble and to them was born one son. He was a member of the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church. Mr. Womble is a World War II veteran and served his country through services of the U.S. Navy. He toured from 1943 to 1945 as a Navy Seabee in the South Pacific. Also preceding him in death is his mother and father, Blanch Matthews Womble and Joseph Valden Womble and one brother, Colon Womble.

Survivors include one son, James "Jim" Womble Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Goldsboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, James D. Womble and Stewart M. Womble.

Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square with the Rev. Arthur Warren officiating.

The family will receive friends following the graveside services at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Murfrees-boro United Methodist Church, 313 W. High St., Murfreesboro, N.C. 27855.

Arrangements are being handled by Sykes Funeral Service of Rich Square, N.C.
