LAGRANGE -- Linda Fay Summerlin Carter, 62, of 332 N. Beston Road, became an angel in heaven Monday after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Wayne County to the late Effie and Harvey Summerlin of Seven Springs. Linda was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Kyle Carter, whom watched over and comforted her during her time of sickness. Linda was a lady of incredible faith in God, love, commitment and dedication for her family, friends, loved ones, co-workers and clients of Caswell Center. For those that knew her, Linda will be remembered as a generous, loyal, caring woman of incredible strength. The love of Linda's life was her family, her home, her flower garden and her job. Even during her most difficult challenges she carried through and held on to the power of prayer. Linda's generosity and selflessness will continue to be an inspiration to all that knew her.

Linda was a devoted employee of Caswell Center for 22 years where she met numerous friends and loved ones that brought great joy to her life and was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Christian Fellowship Organization.

A service to celebrate the life of Linda will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Barfield and the Rev. Ransome Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Linda has been devoted to her husband of 46 years, John H. Carter and their children and grandchildren. Linda was the greatest mother to four children, seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, John of the home, Linda is survived by her sons, Daniel L. Carter of Seven Springs and Jeffrey Lynn Carter and wife, Gail, of LaGrange; her daughters, Pamela E. Carter, Kimberly C. Hancock and husband, Larry Jr., all of LaGrange; her grandsons, Jonathan L. Carter and wife, Christie, of Kinston, Joshua C. Carter of Seven Springs, Chance Carter, Trey Hancock and Zack Hancock, all of LaGrange; her granddaughters, Brittany Lynn Carter of LaGrange and Jessica "Danielle" Carter of Seven Springs. Linda is also survived by nine loving brothers and sisters including her twin, Harvey Summerlin and wife, Barbara, of York, S.C., Jimmy Summerlin and wife, Cathy, of Mount Holly, Linwood "Tunk" and friend, Tammy Strickland, of Mount Olive, Ronnie Summerlin of LaGrange, Johnny Summerlin and wife, Belinda, of Goldsboro, Sally S. Barnett and husband, Jay, of Dudley, Shelby S. Blizzard and husband, Donald, of Mount Olive, Cathy S. Davis of Burns, Oregon, and Donnie S. Moore and husband, Thomas, of Clayton. Additionally, Linda is survived and loved by eight brothers and sisters-in-law including Dora and husband, John D. Barfield, Selma Carter, Bobby Carter and wife, Benny, Ransome Carter and wife, Ruthie, all of LaGrange, and Sue Carter of Grifton. Linda is also survived by numerous special cousins, nephews, and nieces.

The family will gather to receive friends Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
