GEORGE I. GREGORY

George I. Gregory, 85, died Monday at Britthaven of Goldsboro after a long battle with cancer. Born in Halifax County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Eva Jane Holmes Gregory. One of ten children, he was preceded in death by brothers, John, Major, Lonnie, James, Fletcher and William and sisters, Elizabeth Casey, Bessie Holmes and Betty Harriett; a son, Timmy Gregory and a grandson, Joseph Dewayne Thompson. When George was about two years old, his family moved to Wayne County and lived in various places during his childhood.

A member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Goldsboro, he was formerly a member of The Oak Heights Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where he served for many years on the usher board. He was employed for many years with both R.N. Rouse Construction Company and T.A. Loving Construction Company. After his retirement he helped his wife by transporting residents at The Sunshine Rest Home. He loved fishing and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to everyone. He enjoyed spending his spare time beautifying his yard. At Christmas and other seasons, people would drive by his home to see his lights and decorations. He enjoyed traveling with family and with the church senior citizens as long as he was able.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church with pastors, Jimmy Whitfield and Bill Rose and Brother Charles Heath officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park with Brother Charles Dooley officiating.

George was devoted for 36 years to his wife, Juanita Brock McCullen Gregory. He also leaves to cherish his memory his children; daughters, Kay and Linwood Waters, Laverne and Jody Thompson, Denise and Rex Outlaw, Betty Ann and Bernice Lane, Billie Jo McCullen and Todd Moore, Phyllis and Brent Godwin; sons, Gary McCullen, Linwood and Teresa McCullen, Sammy and Hope McCullen, Jackie Gregory, Donald and Belinda Gregory, Ronnie and Mary Gregory, Steven Gregory, Robbie "Charlie" and Sandy Gregory; daughter-in-law, Pam Gregory; grandchildren, Heather and Wade Wright, Angela and Jeremy Kennedy, April and Michael Tripp, Amber and Craven Taylor, Teresa Waters and Michael Wise, Taylor McCullen, Timothy and Amy Kimbrough, Christopher Lane and Wendy Young, Robin Locklear, Ra'Ja Locklear, Tyler McCullen, Jackie Gregory Jr., Tiffany Griffin, Donald Gregory Jr., Kim Cauldwell, Kevin Waters, Michael Godwin, Amber Capps, Matthew Godwin, Stephanie Jones, Jerri Fox, Joshua Gregory, Chris Gregory and Ricky Gregory; great-grandchildren, Connor Wright, Samuel Wright, Zachery Taylor, Cody Kennedy, Johnathan Tripp, Angel Horne, Rebecca Tripp, Brooke Waters, Abigale Wise, Lindy Young, Emily Kimbrough, Katlyn Kimbrough, Kinsley Cauldwell, Madison Jones, Avery Jones, Tanner Capps, Chase Capps and Kailee Waters; his special home helpers, Kathy Spiron and Joyce Harper; and many nieces and nephews.

Family members will greet friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at 903 Old Grantham Road, Goldsboro, N.C.

The family requests that memorial gifts be directed to The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
