SPC. STEVEN R. JEWELL

NEW BERN -- Spc. Steven Roy Jewell, 26, died Aug. 14, 2007, as a result of injuries sustained in a helicopter crash in Anbar Province, Iraq. Steven was proudly serving his country with the U.S. Army.

He was born in Craven County on March 26, 1981, and was a member of the Reelsboro United Methodist Church and the Dover Volunteer Fire Department. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and son.

Steven is survived by his wife, Lisa Johnson Jewell with the U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Wainwright, Ark.; a son, William David Jewell of Kinston; his father, William Henry Jewell and wife, Debra, of New Bern; his mother, Cynthian Joyner Wisener and husband, Jack, of Dover; sisters, Susan Akers of Vanceboro, Logan Wisener of Dover, Joline Scott of New Bern; a brother, William Henry Jewell Jr. of New Bern; a stepsister, Jackie Webster of Oklahoma; a stepbrother, Lloyd Wisener of Woodington; grandparents, Jesse Jewell and wife, Ruth, of Vanceboro, Violet Jewell of Creswell and Irene Wisener of Dover; aunts and uncles, John and Jennifer Wisener of Cove City, Steven and Cindy Joyner of Scotland Neck, Carolyn Phelps of Creswell, Roy Jewell of New Bern; and parents-in-law, Phil and Debbie Johnson of Georgia.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Graveside services with full military rites will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007 at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston.
