MILDRED H. FREEKEN

Mildred Novelle Hanke Freeken, 87, of 502 N. Jackson St., died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Mrs. Freeken was born in Stonewall County, Texas, to the late Rudolph Bernard Hanke and Frieda Hecht Hanke and was the widow of Air Force retiree, James E. Freeken. She lived a very interesting life during her husband's 32 1/2-year tenure of military duty having lived in Brazil, England, the Phillipines and in 11 states in the United States. They chose to make Goldsboro, N.C., their retirement home. Mrs. Freeken was a volunteer with Red Cross, Wayne Memorial Hospital and worked tirelessly with Meals on Wheels. She was a member of a Methodist Church in Texas; however, she attended the Protestant services in base chapels for more than 60 years.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Aglin officiating.
Mrs. Freeken is survived by her son, Monty Freeken and wife, Sandra, of Wilmington, N.C.; her daughter, Brenda Freeken Behr of Goldsboro; her grandson, Christopher Freeken of Wilmington; and her brother, George Hanke of Texas.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
