CALYPSO -- Jimmy Sterling Gardner Sr., 87, of 506 Edwina Kornegay Road, died Sunday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Watkins and the Rev. Jimmy Swinson officiating. Interment will be in Calypso Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home today, 7-9 p.m., with the family at the residence at other times.

Mr. Gardner was born to the late Joe and Bertha Joyner Gardner. He had been a farmer and was a dealer of used cars and used furniture, a business he began in 1977. He was a member of Manley Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Weeks Gardner, their daughter, Brenda Gardner Riley of LaGrange; eight other children raised in the home, David Hollingsworth, Daphne Holloman, Kim Phillips, Chester Foss, Tonya Coleman, Ricky Ramirez, Eddie Ramirez and Esmarelda Ramirez; four other children from a previous marriage, Martha Parker of Faison, Clara Alderman of Graham, Irene Hill of Kinston and Jimmy Gardner of Pink Hill; two sisters, Betty "Bill" Pate of Faison and Lola Askew of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Manley Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, c/o Mrs. Lasky Odom, 1472 Crow's Foot Road, Mount Olive, N.C. 28365.
