FRANKLIN SIMMONS SR.

Feb. 20, 1945-July 29, 2007

PEMBERTON, N.J. -- On Sunday, July 29, 2007, Mr. Franklin Simmons Sr. passed away peacefully in his home in Pemberton, N.J., with his loving wife of 40 years, Mrs. Kay Simmons, by his side.

Mr. Sim-mons is survived by three very dear children, Frank-lin Simmons Jr., Yolanda Simmons and Shelley Her-ring. He is also survived by his mother, Edna Earl Simmons of Goldsboro, N.C.; sister, Janice Simmons; brother, Dean Sim-mons; grandchildren, Ashley Gibbs, Kalei Herring, Jasmine Simmons and Tyler Cowen.

He was born Feb. 20, 1945 in Goldsboro. At the tender age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he eventually held the prestigious title of drill sergeant. Mr. Simmons proudly served his country for 20 years and served in the Vietnam War twice. After his retirement from the military, Franklin Simmons Sr. embarked upon a new career of selling life insurance for Primerica while working in the produce department in the Fort Dix Commissary.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Baptist Church, Browns Mills, N.J. His final resting place is in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, N.J.
