STEPHEN E. KEARNEY

Mr. Stephen Eugene Kearney, 62, of 1196 Saulston Road, died on Sunday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Stephen was born in Greene County to the late Joseph Stephen Kearney and Edna Isabelle Sumrell Kearney. He had worked as plumbing contractor for the County of Wayne until his retirement. Stephen was a member of the Patetown Volunteer Fire Department.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Williams and the Rev. Dock Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Betty Holland Kearney; his sons, Stephen "Steve" Eugene Kearney Jr. and wife, Lori, of Apex, Bryan Allen Kearney and wife, Amy, of Goldsboro and Kenan Wayne Kearney and wife, Charlie, of Four Oaks; his daughter, Karen Pate Peele and husband, Jeff, of Pikeville; his sister, Dorothy Eleanor Parrish of Snow Hill; his brothers, James Edgar Kearney and wife, Nora, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Bryan Jr., Holly, Madison, Cade, Delaney, Matthew and Macie; and a brother-in-law, J.D. Holland of the home. He is also survived by his special pet, Smokey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Roger Kearney.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
