JOHN H. METZ SR.

John Henry Metz Sr., age 86, of 3445 Hwy. 111 N., died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in New Bloomfield, Pa., he was the son of the late David H. and Clara M. Metz. He is the husband of Violet Taylor Metz, and was a veteran having served as a platoon sergeant in the 4th Marine Division in the Asiatic Pacific campaign on the islands of Ennugaret, Ennumennett, Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. In 1986 he retired from the machine shop of General Electric.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. David Brindle officiating.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Metz is survived by a son, John H. Metz Jr. and wife, Sherie, of Goldsboro; a daughter, Linda Metz Kohlenberger and husband, Harry, of Greensboro; one brother, Russell E. Metz of New Bloomfield, Pa.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Family members will greet friends following the graveside service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
