CHARLES W. SUMMERLIN

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Charles W. Summerlin, 67, 374 Price Road, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with the Rev. Ashley Summerlin and the Rev. Butch Haddock officiating. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery near Calypso.

One of ten children, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles W. "Chucky" Summerlin Jr., who died at age five in 1976; his father and mother, Walter G. and Cora Wellington Summerlin; a brother, Haywood Summerlin; and four sisters, Jennie Rouse, Annie Ruth Grady, Edith Kornegay and Christine Jackson.

Those who survive include his wife, Sharon Breakiron Summerlin; a daughter, Sherry S. Darling and husband, George, of Seven Springs; grandchildren, Jonathan Hildebrand and wife, Ashley, of Seven Springs, Caitlin McCullen and husband, Carson, of Grifton, Sarah Allen of Spartanburg, S.C., and Mindy Courtney and husband, Chris, of Spotsylvania, Va.; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Austin Hildebrand, Spencer Larouche, and Chance McCullen; two sisters, Polly S. Williams and Dorothy S. Hill of Faison; two brothers, George Summerlin of Dudley and the Rev. Ashley Summerlin of Seven Springs. A son, Samuel Jernigan and wife, Geraldine, of Smithfield also survive.

"Charlie" was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from the Wallace Police Department where he was detective/sergeant. He was a member of Jackson Heights Free Will Baptist Church of Kinston.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with the family at the residence at other times.
