MAMIE EDNA WEST
March 8, 1924-July 5, 2007
MOUNT OLIVE -- Mamie Edna "Shortie" Sutton West, 83, died Thursday afternoon at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Mount Olive.
She was the youngest daughter of Ivey Becton and Patience S. Sutton of the Outlaw's Bridge section of Duplin County. She graduated in 1943 from B. F. Grady High School, worked for many years at Weil's Department Store in Goldsboro, and enjoyed hours of volunteer service at the USO in Goldsboro. She was a member of the Outlaw's Bridge Universalist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Laura Sutton, Ethel S. Outlaw, Patience S. Hardison, and Aline S. Fields; and four brothers, Daniel Virgil Sutton, William G. "Bill" Sutton, Thomas Allen Sutton, and Ivey Harold Sutton.
Edna is survived by her son, David W. West of Mount Olive; a brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Bernice Sutton of Goldsboro; two other sisters-in-law, Lois Sutton and Annie Lois Sutton, both of Mount Olive; and 19 nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the Outlaw-Sutton Cemetery on Donald Keith Outlaw Road, Seven Springs, with the Rev. Barry Whittemore officiating. A time of visitation will immediately follow at the Outlaw's Bridge Church.
