HOPE MILLS, N.C. -- Bertha Rhodes Person, 80, of Hope Mills passed away on Friday in Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Wilmington surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Johnston County, the daughter of the late Charlie Rufus Rhodes and Smithie Margaret Guinn.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Person was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Louis Person Sr.; daughter, Carol Person Hooks; son and daughter-in-law, Louis Ray and Deborah Griggs Person; two sisters, Flonnie Bell Rhodes and Lillie Rhodes Sutton; and four brothers, Billy Rufus Rhodes, Jessie James Rhodes, Bobby Lou Rhodes and John Lewis Rhodes.

She is survived by her children and children-in-law, Marie Carol Hooks and fiancé Chris Edwards of Wilmington, Michelle Person and Brian Lipe of Pontiac, Ill., David Louis and Rena Person Jr. of Las Vegas, Nev., and John Louis Ray Person of Hope Mills; two grandsons and and one granddaughter-in-law, Tommy Gerald and Amanda Hooks of Wilmington and David Louis Person III of Las Vegas, Nev.; six great grandchildren, Brandon James Gilmore, Dylan James Gilmore, Samantha Nicole Lipe, Matthew David Ray Lipe, Colin Reese Hooks and Emma Grace Hooks; four sisters, Mary Rhodes Overbee, Susie Rhodes Brock, Smithie Rhodes Tobin and Imogene Rhodes Swinson; and a brother, Ira Daniel Rhodes.

Mrs. Person had a large network of family and friends with a special mention to her niece, Peggy Sutton Smith, and close friends, Mary Hardee and Marilyn Patno. She was a member of TOPS 406 Fayetteville and The Church of God of Prophecy.

Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service in Fayetteville. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, 725-A Wellington Ave., Wilmington, N.C. 28401.
