TITUS W. HARRISON

LAGRANGE -- Titus W. Harrison, 86, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Titus is survived by his loving wife, Wanna; two daughters, Linda Meghan Ingram and husband, Franklin, and their children, Jason, Elizabeth and David, and Anita Harrison and sons, Ian Moye and Eric Lemmond and wife, Vicki, and daughter, Monica; stepsons, David Valenzuela and Michael Valenzuela; stepdaughter, Michelle Quinn and husband, Michael; and stepgrandchildren, Adam, Emma, Helena and Alex.

Mr. Harrison is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Kendrick and Martha Harrison, Enzie Singleton, Holton and Mary Margaret Harrison, Maxie and Millard Harrison, Joseph and Dootsie Harrison, Clifton and Joyce Harrison and Donnie and Lucille Harrison. He was preceded in death by his parents, Titus G. and Ruth Harrison; and his siblings, Holton Hilliard, Cleo, Dixon and Elvie Ruth Holland. Titus has 25 special nieces and nephews.

This World War II veteran was a naval radar technician on the USS Idaho during the Battle of Iwo Jima and the subsequent raising of the United States flag. He was an instructor in the veteran's training program following the war. Other occupations included substitute teacher at LaGrange High School, farming, welding and carpentry. His skills in electrical and television service work led to the acquisition of his electrical license and the formation of Harrison Electric Company, through which he trained numerous electricians, including his grandson, Eric. Titus was active in the N.C. Electrical Board of Contractors Association and co-designed the seal still used by that board.

He was an avid and accomplished fisherman, hunter and gardener. Titus served as a volunteer on the LaGrange Rescue Squad and LaGrange Fire Department for over 40 years. He helped raise funds for the first safety equipment and uniforms for the LaGrange Fire Department. Mr. Harrison contributed many years of service to his community, which included visiting the sick and as a teacher and Sunday school superintendent in the LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church. A multitude of lives have been touched by Titus, and he will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 28, 2007, at 6 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home.

Interment will be Friday at 10 a.m. from Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the memorial service, and at other times they will be at the home, 206 W. Railroad St., LaGrange.
