MELVIN E. BARFIELD

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Melvin Edward "Tex" Barfield, 70, of 2861 Indian Springs Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Tex was born in Lenoir County to the late Edgar Marvin Barfield and Essie Morgan Barfield. He worked as a painter for the County of Wayne and retired from the State of North Carolina. After retirement, he was a self-employed painter. Tex was a member of Brogden Chapel P.F.W.B. Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Dorman, the Rev. Randall Barfield and the Rev. Warren Barfield officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Tex is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Darden Barfield; his children, Dusty Barfield of the home, Chalady Barfield of the home, Kathy Radcliff of Rosewood and Vickie McLamb of Garner; his grandchildren, Zoe Barfield, Lindsey Waters and Logan Waters; his brothers, Marvin Barfield, of Goldsboro, Eddie Lee Barfield of Parkton, Randall Barfield of Goldsboro, Warren "Sam" Barfield of Autryville and Timmy Barfield of Snow Hill; and his sisters, Lucille Camacho, Mary Dixon and Judy Overbee, all of Goldsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Mae Barfield; his son, Ken Barfield; and his sisters, Effie Heath, Josie Gibbs, Glennie Wiggins and Joan Hill.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
