MASTER SGT. FRANCIS J. LEWIS

Master Sgt. Francis Joseph Lewis, Retired U.S.A.F., 73, died Tuesday afternoon at his home.

Mr. Lewis was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late James Lewis and Anna Schoellkopf Lewis. He retired on Nov. 1, 1973 as a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force with over 20 years of service. While serving his country, he was the recipient of two Air Medals -- one in 1968 and the other in 1972, and he was also the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross in 1972. Following his military career, Mr. Lewis worked and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service in California. After moving to Goldsboro, he worked with the post office at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Mr. Lewis had a variety of interest that included his great love for bowling and golfing.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 9, 2007, at 4 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. Interment will be Thursday, June 28, 2007, at 11 a.m. in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Anna S. Lewis; his sons, William H. Lewis of Clayton and Walter J. Lewis of Raleigh; his daughters, Diana B. Lewis of Goldsboro and Isabella Dion and husband, Francis, of California; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Spadiccino of Levittown, Pa.; his sister-in-law, Rodegunda Martin of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
