ATLAS 'JACK' HERRING

MOUNT OLIVE -- Atlas G. "Jack" Herring, 86, of 529 Tram Road, a retired employee of Scott and Jones, Inc. in Calypso and a World War II Army veteran, died Thursday morning.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Coy Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mr. Herring is survived by his wife, Nellie Pate Herring of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby F. and Rebecca B. Herring of Mount Olive, Lynwood G. Herring of Mount Olive, and Mrs. Jim R. Herring (Rommie's widow) of Mount Olive; a daughter and son-in-law, Rita H. and Terry Sams of Mount Olive; six grandchildren, Amy H. Raiford and husband, Jon, of Pricetown, Tim Herring and wife, Jackie, of Mount Olive, Sarah H. Thornton and husband, Randy, of Suttontown, Lesley Herring of Knightdale, Lee Davis and Ashley Davis, both of Mount Olive; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jeremy Sams of Tennessee; dear friend, Janet Asbill of Calypso; several nieces and nephews, and the extended families of the late Clarence and Sudie Pate.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rommie Herring; his father, Sam Herring; mother, Glennie H. Herring; and stepmother, Ella J. Herring; and his three sisters, Alice H. Jones, Ida H. Quinn, and Lena H. Wiggins.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
