Christine O'Berry Grant, 91, passed away Thursday, April 26, at her home.

Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Perry Jenkins O'Berry Sr. and Kenneth Penelope "Kennie" McCullen O'Berry.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her husband, John Louis "J.L." Grant; brother, Perry Jenkins O'Berry II; her grandson, Patrick Keyes Humphries and faithful canine companion, Moe.

She and her husband owned and operated Grant Electric Co. in Goldsboro until their retirement in 1991. During the Depression, she worked for the National Relief Agency and volunteered with the USO during World War II. At the age of 55, Mrs. Grant became the third female licensed electrical contractor in North Carolina.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Women, Wayne County Woman Club, Wayne County Democratic Women and the League of Women Voters. She also volunteered with the Wayne County Museum, Arts Council of Wayne County and was a life-long member and long-time Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Women of the Church Circle. She was also a member of the Goldsboro Downtown Lions Club and "Retired Hen" of the Goldsboro Jayceettes.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Grant is survived by her daughter, Ann Grant Humphries; son, John Thomas Grant; granddaughter, Tara L. Humphries; and her sister Lillian O. Pate, all of Goldsboro.

Although flowers are welcome, the family requests donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund, 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530; or to the New Animal Shelter, c/o Wayne County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 227, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533-0227.

Family members will greet friends Sunday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the home of her sister, 1609 Palm St., Goldsboro.
