KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. -- The Rev. Gene E Lewis, 77, died Jan. 31, 2007. He was born in Goldsboro to the late James P. and Ruth Kleinert Lewis.

He dedicated his life to serving the Lord by serving others. He pastored several Friends churches in Ohio and Indiana before retiring after 56 years in the ministry. He taught social studies for 33 years in the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township in Indianapolis. He also ministered through his teaching and touched the lives of countless people.

Gene was a devoted and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Carolyn Long; two sons, James B. Lewis and Jeffrey A. Lewis and their children; two goddaughters, Stacey Driscol and Rachel Bertrand of Goldsboro and a sister, Lou Ann Locke.
