Died April 14, 2007

Funeral services for Thelma Raye Heckstall, 91, will be Saturday at St. Mark Disciples of Christ, Faro, at 11 a.m., with pastor Robert Hood officiating. Burial will follow in Fremont Cemetery.

She died Saturday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. She was the daughter of the late Marcellus Woodard and Nina Raye Hamm. Thelma was married to the late Joe Heckstall and was also preceded in death by several siblings; sons, Mack L. and Willie Paul Pope; daughter, Dollie D. Wheeler; and grandson, Melvin Hayes Jr.

She is survived by four sons, Cronston L. Heckstall of the home, Louis Pope and Eddie Ralph Pope, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Preston Pope of Temple Hills, Md.; daughters, Montonyia Hayes of the home, Minnie M. Jones of Capitol Heights, Md., Margaret Williams of Goldsboro; Ethel M. Lee of LaGrange; grandsons, Tommel D. and Altron L. Hayes, both of the home, and Sir-Quence L. Ruffin of Tacoma, Wash.; granddaughters, Chloe Heckstall of Oakland, Calif., Theresa J. Goldsby and Nigeria Heckstall, both of Goldsboro; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Monk and Mary Coley, both of Wilson, Marjorie Horne of Stantonburg, Annie Davis of Eureka, Lona Anderson of Walstonburg, and Elizabeth Howell of Fremont; brothers, Brodus Williams of Dudley, Andrew Woodard of Walstonsburg, Calvin Woodard, Roscoe Woodard, Donald Woodard, all of Wilson, Roosevelt Woodard of Baltimore, Md.

Viewing will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Lightner Memorial Funeral Home, 601 E. Ash St.
