WILBUR A. PIKE

Mr. Wilbur Allen Pike, 93, a pillar of the Pikeville community and known by many as Mr. Lion, died on Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Pike was born in Wayne County to the late William Moody Pike and Nancy Jane Thompson Pike. He was married to the late Bertie Hare Pike. Mr. Pike retired as the postmaster for the Pikeville Community with 30 years of service. He was a member of the National Association of Postmasters and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Wayne County Chapter 183. Mr. Pike served on the board of directors of Fremont/Pikeville Branch Bank and Trust Co.

He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church and served on its official board and on the board of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.

One of his greatest loves was his work with the Pikeville Lions Club, where he was a charter member. Mr. Pike had served the Lions Club in every office and had an outstanding record of 51 years of perfect attendance. He served as Lions Club District Governor, and in 1990 received the Lions Club's highest international honor, "The Melvin Jones Fellow," and in the same year received the North Carolina Lions Foundation Honor "The John L. Stickley Award." In 2002, Mr. Pike was presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina's highest civilian award.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Mack MacMillian Jr., Eric Carson and David Hollowell officiating. Burial will follow in the Pikeville Cemetery.

Mr. Pike is survived by nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Lion Club members will be seated as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
