CHESTER A. BEST

SMITHFIELD -- Chester A. Best, 69, died Saturday at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born in Duplin County to the late Clifton and Lillie Best. He was a graduate of Douglass High School in Warsaw. A carpenter by trade, he moved to Smithfield in 1964 to work for J.P. Rogers Construction Co. and later Best Home Improvement.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Disciple Church, Smithfield, with pastor Christine Allen officiating.

He is survived by 10 children, Celestine Perry, Rosalyn and Carolyn Best, all of Smithfield, Jennifer Scarboro of Selma, Emily Gai of Goldsboro, Milton Dublin of Baltimore, Md., Chester A. Best Jr. of Jackson, Daryl, Gloria and Sharon Wiggins, all of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Elizabeth Underwood and Emily Porter of Goldsboro, Bertha Thompson of Turkey, Carolyn Sutton of Warsaw, Mattie Farrior of El Paso, Texas; brothers, Dr. James Best of Warsaw and Roy Best of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Thursday 2-6 p.m. at R.L. Sanders Funeral Home.
