FREMONT-- Roland Mooring, 87, died Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be tonight at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, Fremont. Pastors Levi Cummings and Pete Norris will officiate. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Fremont.

Mr. Mooring was born in Wayne County to the late Marcellus and Smithe Darden Mooring. He was a retired farmer.

He is survived by four sons, Bobby Mooring of Holly Ridge, Lewis Mooring of Fremont, Rex Mooring of Pinkey and David Mooring of Wilson; daughters, Louise Mooring Pate and Barbara Mooring Sauls of Wilson; brothers, Linwood Mooring of Goldsboro, Clayton Mooring of Elm City and Billy Mooring of Virginia; sisters, Virset Carter and Bonnie Mae Gwaltney of Goldsboro; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Mooring and a sister, Hadoline Rogers.

Family will receive friends following the service tonight at the funeral home.
