BESSIE B. BELL

Bessie Langhorne Barham Bell, 97, died Saturday morning at Cypress Glenn Retirement Community in Greenville.

Mrs. Bell was born in Goldsboro to the late Judge John Langhorne Barham and Hannah Dewey Barham. She was married to the late Nereus Donald Bell. Mrs. Bell was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va. and was a life-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she influenced the lives of many children teaching Sunday school in the children's department for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 54 and the David Williams Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Willow Dale Cemetery with the Revs. Thurman Horney and Joann Turner officiating.

She is survived by her daughters, Hannah Dewey Bell Diedrick of Rocky Mount and Mary Webber Bell Paxton and husband, Coalter, of Wilson; her sons, Nereus Donald Bell of Caracas, Venezuela, Arthur Langhorne Bell and wife, Faye, of Goldsboro and Thomas Joseph Bell and wife, Lyn, of Pittsboro; her grandchildren, William Coalter Paxton III, Elizabeth Battle Paxton Parker, Ann Langhorne Diedrick, Elizabeth Diedrick McClean, Allison Bell James, Sandra Bell Braswell, and Parker Barham Bell; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Harriette Dewey Paxton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut Street, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

The family will receive friends at the home Langhorne and Faye Bell in Goldsboro and following the service at the graveside.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Goldsboro.
