Sarah Croom Thomas died Saturday at her home.

The funeral will be held Thursday at United American Free Will Baptist Tabernacle in Kinston. Interment will be in Pine Lawn Cemetery in Kinston.

She was born Oct. 26, 1926, to the late John Henry Croom and Sarah Rouse Chambers.

She received her education from the Lenoir County Public School System. She was employed at Caswell Center 25 years where she worked as an educational development assistant.

She was an active member of Herring Grove Free Will Baptist Church where she served as an usher and a Mother. She founded Sarah's Day-Care.

She is survived by her husband, James Edward Thomas of Kinston; four daughters, Joan C. King, Jacquelyn D. Ingram and Swannie G. Holmes of Kinston and Annette M. Croom of Woodbridge, Va.; three sons, Ervin L. Gardner and Oliver Gardner III of Kinston and Michael A. Gardner of Carrollton, Va.; two brothers, Matt Croom of Kinston and Jesse Wheeler of Washington DC; two sisters, Bettie Mae Ward of Pollocksville and Bessie Gardner of Kinston; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are being handled by Swinson's Funeral Service of Kinston.
