PATETOWN -- Laulas Worrell Sasser, 99, of the Patetown community, died at her home Sunday morning March 11, 2007. She had resided in Patetown for over 80 years. Those who knew her admired her work ethics and quiet, loving nature.

Services to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. David Hollowell, the Rev. Gary Bailey, and the Rev. Barry Williamson. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

She had been a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church since 1934.

Born in Wayne County on June 4, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Jim Berry and Lilla Butts Worrell. She was the wife of the late Walter Franklin Sasser and the mother of four children, two of whom predeceased her: Clawson J. Sasser and Barbara S. Crawford.

She is survived by a daughter, Lillie S. Jones and a son, Cordell F. Sasser and wife, Joyce, a special daughter-in-law, Lou G. Sasser, all of the Patetown community, and a son-in-law, I. J. Crawford, Jr. of Pikeville. She is also survived by three sisters, Maude W. Gurley, Jessie W. Stone and Annette W. Smith, all of Goldsboro; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and two children, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Leavie J. Sasser, and a son-in-law, Judge Arnold O. Jones; seven sisters; and three brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, 610 Mt. Carmel Church Road, Pikeville, N.C. 27863.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church and at other times at the residence, 3787 NC Hwy 111 North, Pikeville, N.C. 27863
