Charles Edwin Beamon, 84, 1703 Middleton Road, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Beamon was born in Wayne County to the late Sadie and Minnie Lamm Beamon. He left N.C. State College in 1942 to enter the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Beamon was stationed at the Naval Research Lab in the Washington, D.C. area and graduated as an electronic technician mate second class. He was sent to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as a radar technician and was discharged three months later in 1946.

He retired from Sears as an electronic technician at the age of 71 with 43 years of service. He was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday school class. Mr. Beamon was a longtime member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lancaster Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Lee Pate Beamon; daughter, Nelda Kaye Wasner of Charlotte; son, Keith Beamon and wife, Tamara, of Selma; brother, Benny "Bill" Beamon of Goldsboro; sister, Nancy B. Duncan of Wilson; and grandchildren, Stephanie W. Lowe of Charlotte, Matthew and Holly Beamon of Selma.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leland and Elton Beamon; and his sisters, Adell Knobloch and Gladys Bartlett.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

Family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
