MOUNT OLIVE -- Gerald Franklin Malpass, 48, 712 Bethel Church Road, died Monday.

Born in Mount Olive, he was the son of Wilma Bell Malpass of Faison and the late K. D. Malpass. A member of the 1977 graduating class of North Duplin High School, he was a well-known building contractor, having been owner and operator of Malpass Construction for the past 25 years. He was a member of Faison Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with the Rev. Paul Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Jones Family Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joy Jones Malpass of the home; three children, Corine Malpass Holmes and husband, Glen, of Goldsboro, Abby and Josh Malpass, both of the home; brother, Dennis Malpass and wife, Melinda, of Faison; granddaughter, Emma Holmes of Goldsboro; three sisters, Faye M. Jones and husband, Bill, Debbie Malpass, Connie M. Kornegay and husband, Gerald, all of Mount Olive; special friends, Tom and Linda Gruebel of Mount Olive; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jackie M. Vernon and Meade M. Langston.

The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and at other times at the home.
