Charlie Wilfort Dais, 70, 223 Herbert St., died Thursday at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Rev. Samuel A. and Lurelia Williams Dais. He received his education in the Wayne County Public School system. Mr. Dais was formerly employed with Dewey Brothers, Inc. and N.C. Salvage. Upon retirement, he started Dais Charter Transportation Services. A member of Mount Zion Christian Church, he was a member of Best Grove Masonic Lodge #392.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine M. Dais; a son, Franklin W. Dais (Maureen) of Philadelphia, Pa.; four daughters, Dr. Teresa Dais of Garner, Delphine Rainey (Yusef Brower) of Raleigh, Brenda Jenkins (Kenneth Lucas) of Raleigh, Deardra Walker (Albert) of Holly Springs; three brothers, Earl and Carl Dais, both of Philadelphia, Pa., James Dais of Goldsboro; three sisters, Lucille Warren of Willingboro, N.J., Catherine Cooper of Dudley, Margaret Dais of Philadelphia, Pa.; 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family members will greet friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at the residence, 223 Herbert St., until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, 27834.
