Died Feb. 4, 2007

MOUNT OLIVE -- Willie Ford Matthews, 75, 218 Winn St., died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was a native of Wayne County, former employee of Calypso Plywood Co. and Boiling Chair, Mount Olive, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Nellie Darden Matthews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark Free Will Baptist Church, Mount Olive, with Elder Levoin Troublefield officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Olive.

He is survived by his wife, Eldress Dazelle Matthews of the home; two sons, Napoleon Matthews of Dudley and Paul Leach of Mount Olive; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends, Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home, 401 S. Center St., Mount Olive. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of his son, Napoleon Matthews, 3309 Arrington Bridge Road, Dudley.
