NEPTUNE, N.J. -- Tony Shelton Atkinson, 62, formerly of Four Oaks, died Sunday. He was born in Johnston County to the late Eddie Atkinson and Carrie Cole Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was a 1963 graduate of Forest Hill High School, Four Oaks and Harris Barber College, Raleigh and served in the Vietnam War.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church, Asbury Park, N.J. Wake will precede the service at 9:30 a.m. There will be a memorial service to receive family and friends Sunday at 4 p.m. at Bentonville Disciple of Christ Church, 1009 Devils Track Road, Four Oaks.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Leona Robinson Atkinson; daughter, Vanessa A. Watkins of N.J.; two sons, Eric Underwood and Mario Atkinson of N.J.; three sisters, E. Lenora Dillard of Cambria Heights, N.Y., Carolyn A. Partridge of Garner and Joyce Atkinson of Raleigh; three brothers, Eddie D. Atkinson of Selma, M. Wayne and Terry Atkinson, both of Raleigh.
