Died Jan. 1, 2007

Alice Lorraine Edwards Sasser, 74, passed away peacefully Monday, January 1, 2007 at home surrounded by family and friends.

A native of Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah Edwards and Mattie Edwards Worley. She married the late L.J. Sasser and enjoyed 49 years of marriage. Together they owned Sasser Furniture Company of Goldsboro.

Mrs. Sasser was a devoted home-maker and excellent cook who enjoyed sharing her favorite dishes with family and friends. Throughout her years of declining health, her determination and unfailing smile was an inspiration to all who knew her, including special friends at the Lantern Inn. She was a dedicated member of Rosewood First Baptist Church and a devoted member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon and her husband, Dickie Hawkins of Kinston; her granddaughter, Jentry Jamison Hawkins, 26, of Raleigh, and her grandsons, Tanner Edwards Hawkins, 24, of Williamston and Corbin Allan Hawkins, 14, of Kinston. She is also survived by her god-son, Trey Gurley and wife, Georgia, of Goldsboro.

Mrs. Sasser was fortunate to be loved and supported by her late husband's family which include: Mrs. Ruth Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Braswell, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Sasser, Mrs. Marjorie Forbes, Gene and Rudine Sasser, Mrs. Johnnie Bass, and many special nieces and nephews.

Special love and care was given by Sybil Hartley, Christy Crawford, Teressa Carter, Sandy Pittman, Joanette Pope, Yvonne Gary and Arlene Winders.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Rosewood First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Bostian, the Rev. Vernon Braswell and the Rev. Keith Rouse officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
