The Rev. Leamon E. Hines Sr., associate pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, departed this life on Dec. 24, 2006.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at New Stoney Hill United Holy Church, 1003 Poplar St., Goldsboro, N.C. Pastor H. E. McNair will officiate. A viewing will take place at the church one hour prior to the service.

The Rev. Hines was born in Goldsboro to the late L.B.Hines Sr. and Nora B. Dancy Hines. He was educated in the Goldsboro Public School District and was a graduate of the Wayne County High School. He furthered his education and earned a bachelor's degree in theology from the Theology Seminary in Goldsboro, N.C.

He was employed with the Progressive Life and Unity Insurance Co. for 25 years before retiring. He later became an independent insurance broker and Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Grand Boyd Inc. He also served as an Associate Pastor of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Roselle. The Rev. Hines devoted much of his life and time to masonry. He joined the organization in 1979 and was initiated into Alpha and Omega Lodge 42. He later started a new lodge "Sons of Abraham 221" and countless other memberships, accolades and commendations followed.

Fond memories of the Rev. Leamon are cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Margaret Precious Sampson Hines; his sisters, Edna J. Hines Lewis of Newport News, Va., Tara Phillips, Tina Phillips, Billie Albert, Essie Phillips and Sharon Phillips of Massachusetts; his brothers, Leslie B. Hines of Petersburg, Va., Jesse C. Hines and wife, Louise, of Newport News, Va., Montana Hines of Goldsboro and Henry Phillips of California; four children, Leamon Hines Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Timothy Hines and wife, Roberta, of Sarasota, Fla., Cynthia Brown and husband, Brooks, of Tallahassee, Fla., and Sakeena Robinson of Elizabeth; and two goddaughters, Bernita Hines of Goldsboro and Aiyana Williams of Roselle. Continuing his legacy are eight grandchildren, Crystal, Christopher, Angel, Timona, Miracle, Timothy Jr., Quraaewa and Fidaaa along with a host of other special relatives and friends.
