VINELAND, N.J. -- Georgia Hawes, 102, died Thursday, Dec. 14, at South Jersey Regional Medical Center, Vineland. She was born in Goldsboro to the late George and Lula Hadley Atkinson.

Viewing was held at Mount Pisgah Methodist Church on Dec. 20, 2006, from 10 a.m. to Noon followed by funeral services. Interment was at Gouldtown Cemetery, Fairfield Township.

Mrs. Hawes' formal education was received in Goldsboro N.C., Lawrence-ville, Va., and New York City. She worked at the Army Defense Plant in New York during WWII. She received training at Harlem Hospital, N.Y., as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for many years at several hospitals. Mrs. Hawes and her husband, the Rev. Namon Hawes, founded St. Paul's Methodist Church, Newfield, N.J.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, the Rev. Namon Hawes; daughter, Audrey Hawes; stepsister, Hattie Lee Williams of New York City; brother, John Wanamake Watson, formerly of Goldsboro and Newfield, N.J.

She is survived by two sisters, Carrie Watson Cochran of Dayton, OH and Lola Jones of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Enrichment Center for the Blind in Bridgeton and Mount Pisgah Methodist Church Stewards and Missionary Society.
