RUTH L. FODRIE

PINETOWN -- Mrs. Ruth Latham Fodrie, age 91, died peacefully at the home in Pinetown on Sunday, December 17, 2006. She was born in Pinetown on September 24, 1915.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church, 7099 North Boyd Road, Pinetown, conducted by the Rev. William Mobley. Burial will follow in Latham Cemetery, Long Ridge Road, Pinetown.

Mrs. Fodrie was the first born of John and Annie Boyd Latham, who preceded her in death along with three sisters and two brothers. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Winfield Chadwick Fodrie, in 1990.

After graduating from Bath High School, Mrs. Fodrie attended Durham Beauty School where she trained in Cosmetology and received her license to practice in 1936. She moved to Greenville, N.C. where she was a beautician for over 40 years, taking great pleasure in her work.

After retiring, Mrs. Fodrie moved to Pinetown where she enjoyed working in her yard and growing a vegetable garden. But her greatest joy was growing and caring for her roses. She was a member of the Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church for most of her life and the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Fodrie is survived by her only child, Anne Fodrie Briley of the home; two granddaughters, Debbie Sue Briley of Goldsboro, N.C., Terry Briley Griffin of Stokes, N.C. and her husband, Roger Glenn Griffin, and their children, Joshua Chadwick Griffin and Virginia Grayson Griffin; two brothers, Merle Bennett Latham of Grifton, N.C. and John Latham Jr. of Hampton, Va. and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Paul Funeral Home, Washington and other times at the home, 268 Main Street, Pinetown.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to her voluntary care givers: Ruth O'Neal and Mary Cutler.
