CALYPSO -- Kathryn Jeanette Gorham Cameron, 89, died Monday after a period of declining health.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Currie officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mrs. Came-ron was born in the township of Sullivan in Ashland, Ohio. She was the daughter of John D. Gorham and Myrtle Rouston Provines Gorham.
She grew up and lived in Ashland until World War II, when she moved to Fort Knox, Ken., to work for the Army in communications.
After the war, she relocated to the Panama Canal Zone to live with her brother, Lisle, and continued to work in communications for the United States. There she met Paul C. Cameron and came to Calypso in August 1947, where they were married. They returned to the Canal Zone until the early 1950s before they returned to Calypso to live.
They moved to Miami, Fla., after Hurricane Hazel where they resided with their daughter until 1979, when they returned to the home place in Calypso. They divided their time between Florida and North Carolina until 1982 when Paul died on his way back from the beach, after 35 years of marriage. She continued to reside in Calypso until her death.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul Carroll Cameron of Calypso, and her brothers, Carlos and Lisle Gorham.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Ann Cameron; her granddaughter, Mary Kathryn Dallas Ferguson of Calypso; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.
