JAMES BARNES

James Lassiter Barnes, 81, of 210 North Pine St., Fremont, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. The Rev. Fred Crank will officiate.
Mr. Barnes was born in Wayne County, to the late Oscar Barnes and Dolly Sykes Barnes. He attended Heritage Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Barnes was a veteran of the United States Navy and was employed with civil service for more than 30 years before retiring from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, where he worked in the heating plant.
He is survived by three sons, Jimmy Barnes and his wife, Darlene, of Fremont, Danny Barnes and his wife, Bobbie, of Fremont and David Barnes and his wife, Deborah, of Pikeville; two brothers, Leonard Barnes and his wife, Rose, of Smithfield and Ollie Ray Barnes and his wife, Shirley, of Goldsboro; one sister, Katherine Bradshaw of Fremont; seven grandchildren, Amanda Grant, Sandy Newsome, Vicki Barnes, Crystal Bogy, B.J. Barnes, Brandy Stith and Krystal Barnes; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Deans Barnes; one brother, Jack Barnes; and two sisters, Effie Barnes and Ruth Hollister.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 8:30 at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, in Fremont, and other times at the residence.
