SNOW HILL -- W. Ray Jones, 73, died Tuesday.
A native and lifelong resident of Greene County, he was the son of the late Jasper Lee and Gertrude Murphy Jones. He retired as owner and operator of Snow Hill Service Center and was a member and deacon at Grimsley Free Will Baptist Church.
The funeral will be held today at 7 in the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Melvin Moore officiating. A private committal service will be held Friday at Snow Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean J. Jones; one daughter, Cathy Jones Goodman of Kinston; two sons, David Ray Jones and James Alton Jones of Snow Hill; three brothers, Jimmie Lee Jones of Snow Hill and Bobby Jones and Tommy Jones of Hookerton; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service tonight.
