ROBERT DeGRECHIE

SAINT ALBANS, Vt. -- Robert "Pete" DeGrechie died Saturday at the Northwestern Medical Center after a 17-year struggle with emphysema.
He was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in the 1960s where he formed and served as commandant of a Non Commissioned Officer Leadership School. In 1967 he retired from the Air Force and started a Junior ROTC Program at Southern Wayne High School in Dudley, then moved to Rochester, N.H., where he started a ROTC Program at Spaulding High School. He taught there until his retirement in 1986. While in the Air Force he acquired two Associates Degrees and a BA in Business Administration and minor in psychology.
He was a 60-year member of the American Legion, Creller-Landon Post #60 of Alburgh, Vt., and served as Post Adjutant and Historian for many years. He was also a member of the Franklin County Senior Citizens.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Cora Hunter DeGrechie.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Stokes Breure DeGrechie; one daughter, Nikola "Nikki" Still of Goldsboro; three sons, Michael of Goldsboro, Tony of Marion, N.C., and Jeffrey of Rochester, N.H.; a brother, Lawrence of Venice, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE will officiate. Cremation will take place later at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell Drive, South Burlington 05403 or to the Alburgh Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, 1 Firehouse Road, Alburgh, 05440.
