GREENVILLE -- Robert Alton "R.A." McLawhorn Jr., 78, died Sunday.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park.
A native and lifelong resident of the Bell Arthur community of Pitt County, McLawhorn served in the Army during World War II. He worked for Allen Implement Co. for a number of years and for Tucker Farms until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of American Legion Post 39 and Arthur Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Spain McLawhorn; two sons, Robert A. McLawhorn III and wife, Edna, of Greenville, and David Michael McLawhorn and wife, Vida, of Farmville; a daughter, Cindy M. Umstead and husband, Chuck, of Goldsboro, six grandchildren, Melissa McLawhorn, Robyn McLawhorn, David Michael McLawhorn Jr., Ashleigh Deal, Emily Deal and Charlie Umstead; a great-granddaughter, Brynne Hayes McLawhorn; a brother, Weldon Earl McLawhorn and wife, Hilda, of Washington; and a sister, Franchion Mason and husband, Les, of Topsail Beach.
The family will receive friends and relatives tonight from 7 to 9 at Wilkerson Funeral Home of Greenville.
