WALLACE -- Mildred Lueceila "Celie" Powers Pierce of Wallace died Saturday.

The funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Adoram Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Matthews Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Pierce was the daughter of the late Albert Powers and Annie Stringfield Powers Devane and was the widow of James A. Pierce. She graduated from Shaw University and was an educator in the North Carolina Public Schools until her retirement in 1980. She was a founder of the Socialite Club and remained a member for 35 years. She also was a member of Shaw Alumni Association, the Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of Isis and the Order of the Eastern Star, Mayflower Chapter 127.

She is survived by one son, James R. Pierce of Greenville; her mother, Cynthia Hankins Pierce of Durham; three brothers, Wilton Powers and Milton Powers of Woodbridge, Va., and Jeremiah Harrison of Wallace; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Adoram Baptist Church, at which time final rites will be performed by the Eastern Star and Daughters of Isis.
