WILLIAM F. McKINNEY

William Frederick McKinn-ey, 68, departed this life at the Virginia Beach General Hospital on Friday to join his family and friends in the hereafter that departed previously.

He was born in Philadelphia on Dec. 16, 1935 to Helen Frederick McKinney and Charles Monroe McKinney Sr. He started his school days in the Philadelphia school system, moved to Suffolk to begin the fourth grade and graduated from Suffolk High School in 1953. He continued his education at the University of Richmond, graduating in 1958 with a B.S. in business administration. He was an active member of the band, both in high school and college, a member of the glee club at Richmond, as well as Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves with the rank of major. He was active in community affairs with the Jaycees, both in Suffolk and Virginia Beach. He had accounting positions with several banks, hospitals, etc. and was a member of several professional organizations.

In more recent years, he became a member of the Tidewatchers Booster Club holding various offices, and worked part time with the Norfolk Tides. His love was working the VIP Parking Lot where he became friends with the Season Ticket holders, players, coaches, their wives, the press, city and state officials, various scouts and staff of Major League teams. The staff and ownership of the Tides & Harbor Park were greatly appreciated.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Louise McKinney; a daughter, Katherine Deane Bernel and her husband, Dean, of Goldsboro; three sons, William Frederick Potter of Suffolk, Va., Michael Darin McKinney and wife, Katherine, of Richmond, Va., and David Eugene Kilgore and wife, Carolyn, of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Elizabeth K. Landreth and husband, Edward, of Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Charles M. McKinney Jr. and wife, Faye, of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. "Papa" will always be remembered and missed.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Kellum Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. Interment in Rosewood Memorial Park with Military Honors. Visitation will be from 3 until 5 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Tidewatcher Booster Club Members are requested to wear Tidewatcher Sportswear.
