EVERETT JOHNSON
KENANSVILLE -- Everett Cordell Johnson, age 64, passed away Monday morning, May 3, 2004, at New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington, N.C.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and served four and one-half tours of duty in Vietnam with the United States Federal Government State Department. Mr. Johnson was a member of Kenansville Baptist Church.
Born September 16, 1939, to Mrs. Margaret G. Johnson and the late Mr. Roy Willard Johnson of Duplin County, Mr. Johnson was a well-known, active member of the community. He was a member of the Duplin County Sheriff's Department, worked with Murphy-Brown as an investigator, and previously worked at Duplin General Hospital as head laboratory technician, as well as being owner and operator of Johnson and Son Plumbing of Kenansville. He has been a member of St. Johns Masonic Lodge in Kenansville since eighteen years of age; and a member of the Duplin County Health Board. Mr. Johnson was also a member (nonactive) of the Kenansville Fire Department, Shriners of Wallace, ABC Board of Kenansville, and Kenansville Town Commissioner.
Surviving Mr. Johnson are his mother, Mrs. Margaret G. Johnson of Kenansville; wife, Mrs. Carole Bell Johnson of the Kenansville home; two sons, Everett Stewart Johnson of Warsaw and Woodrow Lewis Smith Jr. of Kenansville; daughter, Teresa Carole Smith of Clinton; sister, Mrs. Oletta Shiley of LaGrange; five grandchildren: Dillon Lewis Smith, Ashley Elizabeth Smith, Matthew Ryan Johnson, Jesse Cordell Johnson and Allisa Ruth Johnson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2004, at Community Chapel, Community Funeral Home, 1654 Highway 24/50 East, Warsaw. Rev. Gene Lakey will officiate. Entombment will follow at Devotional Gardens, Highway 24/50 East, Warsaw.
Visitation will be from 7 - 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw. Family and friends will be received at other times at the family home.
