Highway Patrol searches for hit-and-run driver

Wayne County EMS transports Jason Allen Morgan to Wayne UNC Health Care after he was hit by a car Tuesday while he was walking on Pikeville-Princeton Road. He later was transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a hit and run involving a pedestrian that occurred on Tuesday just after 6:30 p.m.
Troopers have identified the victim as 38-year-old Jason Allen Morgan of 726 Paul St. of Rocky Mount. He was struck by a vehicle along Pikeville-Princeton Road near Gurley Dairy Road, which is located in the western part of the county.
Morgan was transported by Wayne County EMS to Wayne UNC Health Care then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center. His condition is listed as serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a report from the Highway Patrol, Morgan was walking in the middle of the roadway when he was struck.
An eyewitness gave the troopers J.L. Gorman and Sgt. J.M. Dorsey a description of the vehicle that struck Morgan.
The vehicle is described as a champagne gold in color Volkswagen Jetta with heavy damage to the windshield and possibly the hood. The driver is described as a white female along with a white female passenger. The vehicle was last seen traveling west on Pikeville-Princeton Road toward the Johnson County Line.
Dorsey said that there are no indications that the driver slowed or attempted to stop before or after the collision.
